Description: The Ivchenko-Progress D-36 is a high bypass ratio engine family providing 14,000 pounds of thrust developed to power the Yak-42 passenger aircraft and the An-72 and An-74 transport aircraft. The program aim was to provide power to the tri-jet Yak-42 airliner. Engine flight trials started in 1974 and the first version entered series production in 1977. The basic D-36 consists of three-shaft composed of 10 modules. The D-36 engine is the basis for a family of derivative engines comprising: the D-136, D-236 and D-436 aircraft engines.

The D-36-1 (D-36 Series 1) is the initial version intended to power the Yak-42 jetliner. More than 800 D-36-1 engines were produced by Motor Sich between 1977 through early 1990s. The D-36-1A/2A/3A (Series 1A, 2A and 3A) engines were designed to power the An-72/74 twin-engine aircraft family.
