Description:
The Rolls-Royce RB211-524, RB211-22B, is a three-shaft layout, shorter and rigid engine designed to power Boeing 747 and 767 commercial aircraft models. Currently, there are more than 1,100 engines of this type in service worldwide, which have logged more than 80 million flying hours. In addition, the engine is fully interchangeable between Boeing 747-400 and 767-300 aircraft that can reduce ownership costs for a 747/767 mixed fleet.
The 42,000-lb RB211-22B engine was introduced in 1972 powering Lockheed L-1001. In 1977, Rolls-Royce introduced the -524B and -524B2 models powering the Boeing 747 and rated at 50,000 pounds. The 50,000-lb -524B4 engine powering the Lockheed L-1011 was introduced in 1981. In 1980 and 1981 Rolls-Royce introduced the 51,500-lb -524C2 and 53,000-lb -524D4 models respectively powering the Boeing 747-200 and 747SP.
