Description:
The Trent 700 engines, derived from successful RB211 three-shaft layout, have been designed to power the wide body Airbus A330 airliner. The Trent 700 engines also have the growth capacity to respond to future A330 family needs such as a 75,000 pounds of thrust requirement.
The Trent 700 engines have been designed for low noise and low mature fuel burn which represents more range and lower operating costs. Its simplicity design also means lower maintenance costs.
The Trent 772 is the first member of Trent 700 family of engines entering service in 1995 powering the Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 airliners. The improved model Trent 772B entered service powering the A330-300/200 airliners in 1999. Both Trent 700 models are rated at 71,100 pounds.
On 13 June 2005, Rolls Royce announced that Air China Limited selected the Trent 700 engine to power its fleet of 20 Airbus A330-200 wide-body jetliners. The total value of the engine contract with long term support services was $800 million.
On April 20, 2006 Airbus A330-243 and A330-343 fitted with Trent 772C engines were cleared for 180 minutes Extended-Range Twin-Engine Operations (ETOPS) by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Trent 772C is a derivative of Trent 772B engine and features increased take-off and maximum continuous thrust over its predecessors.
On 13 October, 2006, German carrier Lufthansa placed an order for five Airbus A319s, 10 A320s, 15 A321s and 5 A330-300s plus an option for an additional A320 family aircraft. The engine selection was announced October 26 and included a TotalCare services agreement along with the Rolls Royce Trent 700 engine. The engine contract was valued at $300 million and the A330 aircraft were scheduled to be delivered beginning in the first quarter of 2008.
On November 3, 2006, Singapore Airlines announced its selection of Rolls-Royce Trent 700 to power 19 leased Airbus A330-300 airplanes. The deal included a TotalCare long-term services agreement. Aircraft deliveries were scheduled to start in early 2009.
