Description:
The EADS Socata TBM is a family of cabin pressurized business single turboprop aircraft. The TBM 700 project was launched in 1987 by EADS Socata, Mooney Aircraft Company and Valmet with airplane certification and first customer deliveries in 1990. The Socata TBM 850 project was launched in August 2004 and the first prototype completing its maiden flight in February 2005. Type certification and first customer deliveries following in 2006. So far, EADS Socata has sold more than 450 TBM turboprops to customers worldwide.
The TBM 850 is a six-seat, very fast business turboprop with a maximum range of approximately 1,500 nautical miles (2,700 km). It was awarded FAA type certification on February 23, 2006, and EASA type certification on November 28, 2006. Overall, the new TBM family member offers flight performance of light jets with lower operating and maintenance costs of turboprop aircraft and excellent short field performance. As of early 2008, EADS Socata had received orders for up 150 airplanes. Socata can produce up to 60 TBM 850 airplanes annually.
The TBM 850 features an all-glass flight deck based on Garmin G1000 system integrating primary flight, navigation, weather, traffic, ground proximity and technical information on the aircraft, fully associated with a digital autopilot. Advanced avionics reduce pilot workload and eases maintenance. The airplane is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66D turboprop developing a power output of 850-shp. The engine drives a four-blade Hartzell propeller which allows a maximum cruising speed of 320 knots (593 kph) at flight level 260 (in ISA conditions).
