Description: The Double Eagle is a modular, low life cycle cost, remotely operated vehicle for mine hunting missions developed by Saab Underwater Systems. It is equipped with a high performance detection and classification sonar. Besides, the Double Eagle unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) can accommodate a relocation sonar and a mine disposal charge. Its modularity and open architecture enable the replacement of main sub-systems facilitating upgrades, repair and reconfigurations. In addition to the mine disposal role, this UUV can perform maritime security and offshore industry missions.

Typically, the Double Eagles operate aboard mine hunting vessels but can be adapted to many types of ships because it is integrated in a container which can be easily installed on almost any ship. Currently, the Double Eagle UUV is available in MK II and MK III configurations. To date, this advanced, remotely operated countermine system has been ordered by the Navies of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Early in 2005, Saab Underwater Systems was awarded a SEK70 million contract by FMV (Swedish Defence Procurement Agency) for the supply of Double Eagle underwater vehicles and associated equipment in support of Landsort class minehunters modernization effort.
