Description: Long-term Mine Reconnaissance System (LMRS) is an Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) designed to be launched from the torpedo tubes of attack submarines such as Los Angeles- or Virginia-classes. This 20-ft long vehicle is able to survey underwater tethered and bottom mines and other targets for approximately 60 hours. Once the mission has completed LMRS returns to its home ship and gets into through the torpedo launch tube aided by the submarine's 60-foot robotic arm. Then the operators can retrieve the data gathered by the UUV and prepare for another mission.

In April 2006, Boeing announced the completion of the second phase of tests at sea during early 2006 involving UUV docking to a submarine with the vehicle in a variety of configurations. The first series of tests started in September 2005.
