Description: Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace's MineSniper is a low-cost mine disposal system for the destruction of sea mines thru one-shot. It was developed in close co-operation with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the Norwegian Navy. It has been deployed onboard Norwegian Navy mine clearance vessels and Spanish Navy's six Segura-class mine clearance vessels. Kongsberg intends to provide MineSniper to the US Navy as well.

The mine hunting and disposal system can be operated from surface ships and/or helicopters and comprises the control system and expendable mine disposal vehicles. The mine disposal semi-submersible vehicles are remotely controlled by the control system which effectively identifies and leads them to the sea mines. The semi-submersible vehicle is two meters long and weighs about 30 kilograms.

Kongsberg's MineSniper mine disposal system were selected by IZAR for the Spanish Navy's Segura-class mine clearance vessels for the first time on July 4, 2002. The contract was for control systems and mine disposal vehicles for one one vessel valued at approximately MNOK 15 ($2.3 million). The contract included options for four additional vessels with a price tag of MNOK 70 ($10.5 million).

On January 9, 2003, the Spanish Navy executed a contract option to deliver MineSniper for four vessels valued at MNOK 23 ($3.5 million). A further option was exercised by the Spanish Navy on December 10, 2004, for the procurement of additional MineSniper mine hunting systems and underwater mine disposal vehicles worth MNOK 31 ($4.7 million) on behalf of two additional mine clearance vessels.
