Description:
The LOw Cost Autonomous Attack System (LOCAAS) is a powered and unpowered smart submunition carrying an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) warhead. The LOCAAS will be available for the the US Air Force and the US Army.
The LOCAAS can be detonated as a long rod penetrator, an aerostable slug, or as fragments, based on the target hardness. Target aim point and warhead detonation mode are determined by the Laser Radar (LADAR) seeker. The LOCAAS weapon can be dispensed from aircraft, munitions dispenser, conventional rockets, and tactical ballistic missiles (ATACMS). Once released, the LOCAAS depends on a GPS/INS navigation system with LADAR end-game seeker.
The LOCAAS is still in early stage of development and will be provided to current and future aircraft (F/A-22 and F-35) as well as other weapon platforms.
