Description: The MLG 27 is a remotely controlled, light naval 27mm gun designed for close-range, self-defense of surface combatants and smaller naval craft engaging aircraft, helicopters, fast attack boats, and on-shore targets with devastating effects. It is based on the proven Mauser BK 27 revolver gun associated to Eurofighter-Typhoon multirole aircraft.

A total of 83 MLG 27 guns have been ordered by the German Navy with deliveries beginning in December 2003. They will supersede manually operated 20 and 40mm guns within the German Navy.

On 29 June 2006, the US Navy awarded Rheinmetall a $43 million contract for the supply of 12 MLG 27 naval gun systems, test ammunition, spare parts, logistics data, engineer support services and training. These gun systems were bought to be installed onto MKV-C fast-interceptor boats that were being acquired by the Navy of Kuwait under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
