Description: The MOdular Naval ARtillery Concept (MONARC) is an advanced ship-mounted artillery system developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, HDW and Rheinmetall. It consists of a PzH 2000 howitzer turret modified for ship installation. In order to be integrated on a frigate the MONARC artillery system features reduced recoil by means of an elastic mounting. The ammunition storage and handling systems will be modified to achieve fully automated operation mode.

The MONARC could be applied to German Navy's F124-class frigates providing onshore engagement capability. Rheinmetall is developing new ammunition that will make possible MONARC to engage targets located within 80 km around the ship. The affordable MONARC artillery system could be retrofitted to existing frigates and destroyers replacing 76mm naval guns.
