Description: The Mk 45 Mod 4 is a 127mm/5-inch 62 calibers naval gun in service in US Navy destroyers providing surface fire support. It is the latest Mk 45 gun development and provides littoral warfare fire support through the ERGM family of munitions.

The Mk 45 Mod 4 provides a range in excess of 21 nautical miles with current non-assisted ammunition. When the new EX171 ERGM munitions would be available the maximum range of the Mk 45 Mod 4 naval guns will be extended to 60 nautical miles.

The Mk 45 mod 4 includes a 62 calibers barrel, strengthened gun chamber, lengthened recoil stroke and an interactive touch-screen control system. The Mod 4 also includes a reduced radar signature and full compatibility for the ERGM family of munitions.

The DDG-81 USS Churchill has been the first US Navy ship to be equipped with the Mk 45 mod 4 naval gun. The US Navy plans to retrofit the mod 4 gun standard to existing surface combatants.
