Description: The BTR-3U, also known as the Guardian, is an 8x8 wheeled, fully amphibious armored personnel carrier developed by an international consortium comprising Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau (KMDB) of Ukraine, the ADCOM Manufacturing of Abu-Dhabi, UAE, and the State Scientific Technical Centre of Artillery & Rifle Arms of Ukraine. The armored vehicle development was completed in 2001. Despite being an all-new chassis, the BTR-3U appearance is similar to the Soviet BTR-80 armored personnel carrier.
In the amphibious mode, the BTR-3U vehicle is propelled by a single water jet mounted at the rear of the hull. Amphibious operations require the driver to erect a trim vane and switche on the bilge pumps from within the vehicle. The vehicle requires a three-man crew and can transport as many as six fully equipped infantrymen entering and leaving by a door in either side of the hull. There are roof hatches and firing ports at the troops compartment allowing the infantrymen to fire protected under armor. The vehicle also includes air conditioning, fire extinguishing system and a central tyre inflation system to adjust the tyre pressure to adapt to the terrain conditions.
The BTR-3U is equipped with the Shkval fighting module which includes a 30mm cannon, a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, a 30mm automatic grenade launcher, and two ready-to-fire Red Arrow or Konkurs anti-tank missiles and another two missiles in reserve. The BTR-3E version is equipped with BM-3 Shturm overhead weapon station. The vehicle is powered by a DEUTZ 326-hp diesel engine providing a top speed of 85 kph and a cruising range of 600 kilometers.
