The Type 82, also known as CCV-82, is a 6x6 high mobility wheeled Command and Communications Vehicle (CCV) developed by Komatsu for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). The CCV-82 armored vehicle has a crew of eight and is equipped with a roof-mounted 12.7mm M2 machine gun and optionally a 7.62mm machine gun. It is powered by a 305-hp 10-cylinder water-cooled four-cycle diesel engine allowing for a top speed of 100 kph on road. As of 2006, the JGSDF had fielded 231 CCV-82s and 35 NBC reconnaissance vehicles.
The Type 82 chassis is also the basis for a wheeled Nuclear Bacteriological and Chemical (NBC) reconnaissance vehicle used by the JGSDF. The same chassis was also used for the Type 87 wheeled reconnaissance and patrol vehicle. The NBC vehicle retains the 12.7mm gun, needs a four person crew and the vehicle's gross weight has been increased to 14,100 kg due to the NBC and air purification equipment, sensors and probe array extra weight. The top speed is decreased to 95 kph from 100 kph for the slightly lighter CCV-82. The vehicle's length was increased to 6.1 meters.
