Virgin Blue order for six Boeing 777-300ERs with options for six more announced on March 22, 2007. Virgin Blue ordered the 777s to initiate long-haul services between the United States and Australia. The firm order jetliners were valued at $1.5 billion. In parallel, Virgin Blue exercised an option on five additional Boeing 737-800s valued at $350 million. Virgin Blue selected the General Electric GE90-115B to power its six Boeing 777-300ERs on June 27, 2007. The engine contract was valued at $300 million.
