Lufthansa launch order for the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental fuel-efficient passenger aircraft placed on December 6, 2006. Order valued at $5.5 billion at list prices for 20 airplanes plus 20 purchase rights. First aircraft was scheduled for delivery in 2010 (delayed to 2011). Lufthansa selected General Electric to power the firm order aircraft. The engine contract was valued at $950 million for 80 Genx 2B engines.
