BAE Systems Delivers 1000th Common Missile Warning System to US Army

NASHUA, New Hampshire � BAE Systems has delivered its 1,000th Common Missile Warning System (CMWS) to the U.S. Army. The system protects Army fixed-and rotary-wing aircraft from the threat posed by widely deployed missile systems.

Army officials joined more than 300 BAE Systems employees involved in manufacturing the life-saving systems to mark the milestone at the company's Nashua facility.

"The delivery of the 1,000th system is a significant milestone to provide the best possible protection for U.S. Army aircrews in support of the global war on terrorism," said Dr. Conrad Struckman, BAE Systems' CMWS program director. Struckman observed that the program had grown significantly from the initial delivery of four systems per month to a current level of more than 40 per month.

BAE Systems received an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract in 2006 to provide up to 1,710 systems. BAE Systems delivered the initial 505 systems more than 12 months ahead of schedule to ensure that all Army aircraft operating in Iraq and Afghanistan were outfitted with this critical protective capability.

The IDIQ, which has a ceiling of $1.4 billion, affords the Army the flexibility to order at various times any number of systems up to the maximum quantity specified in the contract.

CMWS, part of BAE Systems' Advance Threat Infrared Countermeasures (ATIRCM) system, and advanced infrared countermeasures munitions flares comprise the primary components of the Army's current suite of integrated infrared countermeasures.
