British Airways selects Trent 800 for more Boeing 777s

British Airways has placed a follow-on order for Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines to power up to eight additional Boeing 777-200ER twinjets.

The deal, which involves four firm aircraft, plus four options, is potentially worth $320 million at engine list prices.

Maintenance of the engines involved in today's announcement will be covered by an extension to the airline's existing TotalCare® agreement, administered by Rolls-Royce.

British Airways already operates 16 Boeing 777s, also powered by the 95,000lb thrust Trent 895.

Mike Terrett, President, Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, said: "The Trent's selection reflects British Airways' positive view of the engine's in-service performance, while the extension of the TotalCare contract is an endorsement of the maintenance agreements which have been in place for the last seven years. Repeat business sends a strong signal, and I'm delighted that we are expanding our fleet presence with a world class customer."

The Trent 800 beats levels of emissions required by latest international environmental legislation by up to 80 per cent, and has the lowest levels of NOx on the Boeing 777-200ER. It has a 43 per cent market share where it competes on the 777.

Rolls-Royce continues to be a world leader in investment focused on improving environmental performance. The company spends more than a million pounds a day on research and development of new technologies and products, concentrated primarily on reducing noise and emissions.
