Released on Thursday, December 08, 2005

Embraer today announced a contract with the Government of Colombia for the sale of 25 Super Tucano aircraft. The value of the contract is $235 million and marks the first ever Super Tucano export deal.

The aircraft acquired by Colombia will be operated by the country's Air Force in internal security and border patrol missions. The contract was signed yesterday in Bogota.

The selection of the Super Tucano resulted from its technological innovation, operating excellence and affordability, which are fundamental characteristics of this aircraft. The Colombian Air Force (FAC) currently operates 14 Tucano basic training aircraft produced by Embraer. These were purchased in the 1990s.

The contract also includes comprehensive logistics and systems training package with a full flight simulator. The Super Tucano is already in service with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). Deliveries to this customer, which contracted 99 Super Tucanos, proceed according to schedule.

FAB's Super Tucanos are in use to train pilots and also being deployed alongside eight other Embraer-built Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft in the Brazilian Government's Amazon Surveillance Program (SIVAM).
