Bell Helicopter, a wholly owned Textron Systems subsidiary, announced that the Eagle Eye tilt-rotor tactical VTOL UAV passed a critical milestone within the US Coast Guard's integrated Deepwater system program.

The success in the critical milestone and completion of preliminary design review (PDR) pave the way for the next stage of Deepwater VUAV (Vertical UAV) segment contract. The critical milestone demonstrated that Eagle Eye meet the US Coast Guard requirements.

Within the Eagle Eye preliminary review the aircraft flew over 90 hours, achieving 200 knots (370 km/h) in level cruise speed while carrying a 210-lb (95 kg) payload. The production model payload is expected to be approximately 240-lb (109 kg).

The Eagle Eye tilt-rotor tactical UAV combines helicopter's vertical take off and landing characteristics with outstanding airplane's range and speed. The Eagle Eye will operate from US Coast Guard's vessels performing surveillance missions.
