- Letter of Intent
- Memorandum of Understanding
The CEO's of French Giat Industries and German KMW, Luc Vigneron and Frank Haun,
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly work on a Medium Size
Multirole Armored Fighting Vehicle. The signature underlines the strong
willingness of both companies, which are each the leaders in their respective
national land vehicle markets, to lead the way in Europe towards a commonly
defined military vehicle project based on joint requirements. Such efforts have
since long been requested from all leading European governments.
The MoU comprises commonly funded activities for the concept of a 6x6 vehicle
demonstrator with a total weight of less than 20 tons. A first demonstrator is
expected to be ready by 2010. This meets the requirements of the five LoI
(Letter of Intent) countries, who signed a so called Common Staff Target for a
Medium Size Multirole Armored Fighting Vehicle. In addition, export prospects to
other allied forces in this category are regarded as highly possible.
The basic platform will serve for a comprehensive range of military mission
variants: fighting vehicles, air defense-, engineering- and fire
support-systems, other mission fields such as ambulance, recovery, repairs,
mortar, anti-tank, NBC, command & control and reconnaissance. In addition, the
vehicle will benefit from features such as maximum crew protection and mobility
that are far beyond the standards of existing vehicles in this weight class.
