The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified the US Congress of a
possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Finland of F/A-18 Mid-Life Upgrade as
well as associated equipment and services.
The Government of Finland has requested a proposed sale for the second phase of
the F/A-18 Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) Program consisting of 64 F/A-18C/D fleet
retrofit kits including: 64 Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems (JHMCS), 64
Tactical Aircraft Moving Map Capability systems, 64 Digital Communications to
Wingtips wiring systems, 144 AIM-9X compatible launchers and 36 AN/APX-111
combined interrogator transponders systems.
The total estimated cost of this potential sale could be as high as $130
million. The MLU kits will be applied to the current fleet of F/A-18C/D Hornet
multi-role fighter operated by the Finnish Air Force.
Under MLU program Finnish Hornets will increase its service life while enhancing
survivability and communications connectivity.
