Finland Orders FDF Ranger 2 UAV

The Finnish Defense Forces awarded Oerlikon Contraves AG, a wholly subsidiary of Rheinmetall, a contract for the supply of a new Ranger UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system.

The new Ranger system has been designated as the FDF Ranger 2 UAV and consists of air vehicles, ground control station, remote communications terminal, and stand-alone mobile receiving unit. This contract also covers training and logistics support.

The FDF Ranger 2 UAV system will be deployed in support of Finnish artillery units providing potential targets information.

The delivery of the new UAV system is scheduled for autumn 2005. IAI, Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd., from Israel was the Ranger UAV original contractor with Oerlikon Contraves acting as leader of the international consortium responsible for the Ranger UAV.
