BAe Systems has announced the maiden flight of the first production British Eurofighter-Typhoon aircraft. The 24-minute flight took off from BAe System's facility at Warton.

This first flight is part of a major achievement for the Eurofighter Typhoon project, as all of the European partners have seen their first series production aircraft make their maiden flights in the last few days.

The official handover of the first Typhoon to the Royal Air Force is scheduled for later this year.

Each of the first four Typhoon aircraft, delivered to each nation involved in this project, will now undertake a series of tests for type acceptance process. Later this year Air Forces from the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain will take delivery of their first production Typhoon.

Eurofighter Typhoon program calls for production of 620 aircraft. The United Kingdom will take delivery of 232 aircraft, Germany 180 aircraft, Italy 121 aircraft and Spain 87 aircraft.

The Kingdom of Norway seems to be interested in this aircraft. Austria and Greece already selected The Typhoon to meet their requirements for a future fighter.
