The Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) delivered 6 December 2010 version of the qualification "Block 3" of the Exocet anti-ship missile sea-sea 40 (MM40 B3). A first batch of 45 missiles, commissioned in December 2008 to MBDA, will be delivered between late 2010 and mid-2013 to the Navy. The first four missiles were accepted on December 16 by the service quality of the DGA.

Version "Block 3" aims to maintain the best level of operational capability of MM40, doubling its reach and enabling it to treat targets located in coastal areas. This missile will equip a first step the two new air defense frigates Horizon (Forbin and Chevalier Paul), then all senior frigates including FREMM (multimission frigates).
