The United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defence (MoD) has declared AgustaWestland's
Future Lynx proposal as preferred option for land and sea helicopter future
requirements. The estimated value of the improved Future Lynx program is
estimated at £1 billion ($1.9 billion) as part of the MoD commitment to invest
approximately £3 billion in rotorcraft over the next 10 years.
In the land helicopter role, Future Lynx will perform scout missions finding
enemy targets. In the sea configuration, Sea Lynx will be capable of performing
maritime attack missions. Future Lynx is expected to integrate advanced sensors
and other improvements to the combat proven Lynx design that will allow to
extend its service life well into the 21st century.
The UK MoD decision follows the US presidential helicopter contract awarded to
US101 team, US101 is based on AgustaWestland's EH101 heavyweight helicopter.
