The German Defense Procurement Agency (BWB) signed an order with BAE Systems' Land Systems Hagglunds for 75 Bv206S all terrain vehicles valued at approximately 300 million SEK ($42 million). This contract belongs to a German Army's requirement for some 200 armored vehicles for the Mountain Brigade based in Mittenwald, Germany.

Land Systems Hagglunds will produce the vehicles in partnership with Rheinmetal Landsysteme GmbH. The first batch of Bv206S vehicles for the German Army was ordered in 2002 and funded the procurement of 31 units.

The Bv206S is the newest armored variant of Bv206 all-terrain vehicle, of which Hagglunds has built more than 11,000 units for 40 countries worldwide. Currently, the German Army operates 168 Bv206 vehicles.

Bv206S has a load capacity of 1,550 kg and can tow an additional 2,500 kg trailer. The front and rear units are connected by a unique hydraulic steering linkage, which gives greater flexibility and maneuverability. The vehicles simple handling qualities will effectively minimize driver training. The vehicle can be air dropped and transported by a variety of aircraft and helicopters.
