Hawaiian Airlines Expands Contract for Pratt & Whitney Engine Wash

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., March 28, 2007 Hawaiian Airlines has expanded its contract with Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners (GSP) to include EcoPower® engine wash services on its fleet of nine CF6-80A2 engines. Hawaiian also extended its current EcoPower engine wash agreement on the airline's Boeing 767 fleet from three years to four years, through March of 2009. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

"We have been washing our engines with Pratt & Whitney's EcoPower wash service for almost two years and are very pleased with the results," said Charlie Nardello, vice president for maintenance engineering at Hawaiian Airlines. "We are thrilled with the improvements we have seen in terms of fuel savings and reduced emissions."

Under the previous contract, Global Service Partners provided EcoPower engine wash services on Hawaiian Airlines fleet of 31 PW4060 engines, powering its Boeing 767 aircraft. The engine wash program improved Hawaiian's engine performance, allowing it to save as much as 2.8 million lbs. of fuel a year, or $1 million annually in fuel costs. The engine washes take place biannually at Los Angeles International Airport.

"We are proud to continue to provide Hawaiian Airlines with an environmentally-friendly method of improving its engine performance," said Jim Keenan, senior vice president and general manager, Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners. "With a cleaner engine, Hawaiian will enhance engine performance and burn less fuel, ultimately saving time and money."

The EcoPower engine washing process is a closed-loop, environmentally-friendly system that uses atomized water to wash aircraft engines. Not only does the system avoid potentially harmful effluent run-off during the washing process, but it also is more effective and much faster than traditional engine washing processes. EcoPower wash improves engine performance and extends time on wing for operators of Pratt & Whitney, GE, IAE, CFMI and Rolls-Royce engines. EcoPower wash can reduce fuel burn by as much as 1 percent and increase EGT margin by as much as 15 degrees C.
