MBDA orders from Sagem Défense Sécurité new infrared thermal imager for Eryx land warfare weapon system

MBDA has just ordered from Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) close to 300 new-generation thermal imagers to equip the firing posts of its Eryx anti-tank missiles.

Building on developments made in the FELIN* program, the thermal imager uses new uncooled infrared technology. It offers users of the weapon system numerous technical/operational advantages: compactness, low weight, noiselessness, ease of use and enhanced autonomy.

This contract makes Sagem Défense Sécurité the supplier of reference for uncooled infrared imagers for the Eryx land weapon system.

The imager provides new operational advantages for night combat; namely its range matches the missile's maximum range. It is available for new equipment or for upgrading existing weapons systems.

At Eurosatory 2008, the new imager is displayed on the MBDA stand integrated on an Eryx system.

To date, the armed forces of eight countries use or have ordered more than 3 500 Eryx firing posts.

This order reinforces the cooperation between the two companies in the field of missiles and tactical weapons, a partnership reinforced by a recent agreement on AASM (Modular air-to ground weapon).
