HMS Vinga delivered

Kockums has delivered HMS Vinga in the Koster Class to the customer FMV, the Swedish Defence Material Administration. This order is large and important and we are glad that we today can hand over HMS Vinga, said Kockums CEO Jan-Olof Johansson.

Kockums received the order to carry out a Mid-Life Upgrade on five Landsort Class MCMVs (Mine Countermeasures Vessels) as well as a general refit. The five vessels are at the same time undergoing a modification for international missions, ordered by the Swedish Navy. The first vessel came into Kockums shipyard in Karlskrona in March 2005 and work will continue under 2009. Kockums is prime contractor. Responsibilities include negotiating the procurement of command and sonar systems.

The Landsort Class, which is constructed of glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP), was built in the early 1980s by Kockums in Karlskrona. The vessels have payed an important role in the Swedish Navys organisation and will continue to do so. After the Mid-Life Upgrade, the vessels will satisfy all the demands on tomorrows MCMVs, as part of the international rapid-reaction force which the Swedish Armed Forces are now committed. After modernisation the name has been changed to Koster Class. HMS Vinga is now on sea trials.
