Northrop-Grumman, Boeing and Raytheon to Develop the E-10A Surveillance Aircraft

Northrop-Grumman, Boeing, and Raytheon have been awarded a $215 million contract for pre-system development and demonstration Weapon System Integration (WSI) of the future US Air Force E-10A surveillance, command and control aircraft.

The E-10A, formerly known as the Multi-sensor Command and Control Aircraft (MC2A), will provide airborne enhanced ground surveillance, targeting and cruise missile defense capabilities. It will comprise a radar sensor, a battle management command an control (BMC2) system and the Boeing 767-400ER airframe.

Northrop-Grumman and Raytheon will take care of the radar sensor and the BMC2 system and Boeing will be responsible for the 767-400ER airframe, while Northrop-Grumman will act as lead system integrator.

The US Air Force plans to field the first E-10A test bed in 2008 and 4 fully operation aircraft in 2012. The E-10s will complement the E-8C surveillance aircraft while providing advanced capabilities such as targeting and cruise missile defense.
