Northrop Grumman Delivers 100th Radar for the U.S. Air Force's F-22 Raptor

BALTIMORE, May 3, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) achieved a key milestone in April with the delivery of the 100th active electronically scanned array (AESA) production radar for the U.S. Air Force's F-22 Raptor.

Designated the AN/APG-77(V)1, the 100th radar is part of the Lot 6 deliveries. F-22 production aircraft, each featuring the Northrop Grumman AESA radar, are currently in active service at Langley Air Force Base, Va. Twelve of the production F-22s were deployed in February to Kadena Air Base in Japan.

"This is a very significant event for the F-22 production program," said Teri Marconi, vice president of Combat Avionic Systems at Northrop Grumman. "The F-22 AESA radar is the most capable fighter radar in the world today. It ensures that Raptor pilots will have detailed information about multiple threats before the enemy's radar ever detects them."

Marconi added that all 100 production radar systems have been built and delivered on time.

Northrop Grumman's Baltimore-based Electronic Systems sector leads a joint venture with Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems to design, develop and produce the F-22 radar system. Northrop Grumman has responsibility for the overall design of the AN/APG-77 and AN/APG-77(V)1 radar systems, including the control and signal-processing software, as well as the radar systems integration and test activities.

The Boeing Co., which is teamed with prime contractor Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney to design and build the F-22 Raptor, has responsibility for integrating the radar with the other avionics systems to produce an integrated suite that features sensor-fused target detection and tracking.
