Pizarro Production Program Enters Phase Two

General Dynamics Santa Barbara Sistemas, a General Dynamics Spanish subsidiary, has been selected by the Spanish Ministry of Defense to execute the second phase of the Pizarro IFV program.

This second phase includes manufacturing 176 Pizarro fighting vehicles, 22 command post vehicles and associated logistics support.

General Dynamics Spanish subsidiary will enter now negotiations on the scope, timing and value of the program. Phase Two Pizarro program could be valued as much as €520 million.

Phase one of the Pizarro program included 121 Pizarro IFV and 21 command post vehicles. The first delivery of the second phase vehicles would be in 2005 and completion by 2010.

By 2010 the Spanish Army Pizarro inventory would total 340 vehicles, 297 Pizarro fighting vehicles and 43 command post vehicles.

The Pizarro weighs 25 tons and can carry 11 personnel at a maximum speed of over 70 kilometers per hour. Pizarro features also include a 30 mm automatic gun as main armament.
