ST Aerospace to Provide GEnx Engine Support
January 14, 2009 -- SINGAPORE -- GE Aviation (GE) and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd (ST Aerospace) have signed a 20-year agreement that enables ST Aerospace's subsidiary, ST Aerospace Engines Pte Ltd (STA Engines), to serve as a GE-approved On-Wing Support provider for the GEnx-1B and GEnx-2B engines. ST Aerospace is the aerospace arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering).
As a GE-approved GEnx On-Wing Support provider, ST Aerospace will offer GEnx-1B and -2B on-wing support services utilizing GE material and GE-approved repair processes for customers all over the world from its facilities in Singapore and the US. Under the agreement, GE will provide ST Aerospace with technical support, including training, technical manuals and equipment. In addition, ST Aerospace will have access to GEnx engineering support, ensuring leading edge technology for ST Aerospace's maintenance process and providing GEnx operators with the highest standards in on wing support.
As part of its support for the OEM solution, ST Aerospace would invest in the set up of capabilities for the on-wing support, leveraging its global maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network and close relationships with many airlines that have ordered GEnx-powered aircraft.
"With STA Engines as a GE-approved On-Wing Support provider, GE Aviation can expand its on-wing support capabilities and provide 24/7 response to our global GEnx customers," said Tom Gentile, vice president and general manager, GE Aviation's Services organization. "Our customers will know that with GE's or STA Engines' on-wing support technicians, they are getting the best support services that are available."
"ST Aerospace is pleased to commit the necessary resources and efforts to support the entry into service of the GEnx engine," said TAY Kok Khiang, president of ST Aerospace. "With many GEnx operators being our current customers in other aspects of aviation support, we believe we can efficiently support GE's commitment to ensure responsive support to its customers. We view our partnership seriously, and this is the cornerstone of our collaboration with airlines and OEMs."
GEnx engines power the Boeing B747-8 and B787 aircraft. The GEnx engine is the fastest-selling engine in GE's history with more than 1,100 engines sold to date.
