Saab has announced that the Czech Republic has finally agreed to purchase the RBS70 short-range, man-portable air defense system for the Czech armed forces as the end customer. This decision follows on Latvia procurement contract for the RBS70 in November this year.

The RBS70 ordered by the Czech Republic through a MSEK 204 ($29 million) contract will be delivered with a night sight, Bolide supersonic missiles and aircraft IFF. Since 2001, Saab Bofors Dynamics has sold RBS70 systems worth one billion SEK ($140 million). Swedish Saab won the competition against European and American tenders. Czech Republic will be the 18th nation to add RBS70 to its defense materiel inventory.

The order is for the upgraded version of RBS70 air defense system and comprises the items noted above. Deliveries are scheduled to take place in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
