Singapore Airlines and Rolls-Royce Sign TotalCare Agreement for A380 Fleet Through 2021

Rolls-Royce and Singapore Airlines have signed a TotalCare® services agreement, extending to 2021, covering maintenance of the Trent 900 engines which power the carrier's new fleet of Airbus A380s. Singapore Airlines has selected the Trent for its initial ten A380s, the first of which entered service last month.

Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce, said: "This agreement marks a further development in our valued relationship with Singapore Airlines. This type of comprehensive support, through tailored aftermarket services, enables us to fulfil a genuine partnership role in Singapore Airlines' operations."

This is the third TotalCare contract between the airline and Rolls-Royce covering versions of the Trent. Existing agreements support the Trent 500 engines on Singapore Airlines' Airbus A340-500s and the Trent 800s on its fleet of Boeing 777s. Maintenance will be carried out at Singapore Aero Engine Services Ltd. (SAESL).

Nine out of the 12 customers who have made A380 engine selections to date have chosen the Trent 900, giving Rolls-Royce a market-leading 58 per cent share of firm and option orders.

The Trent 900, one of the most powerful engines ever produced by Rolls-Royce, has been designed to minimise its environmental impact, and will operate well within the requirements of all current and proposed legislation on emissions. The Trent-powered A380 comfortably meets the stringent noise limits for airports such as London Heathrow, one of the aircraft's early destinations for Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines' links with Rolls-Royce were established in 1995 with the selection of Trent 800 engines for its fleet of Boeing 777s. Since then the airline has also selected Trent-powered Airbus A330s, A340-500s, A380s and A350 XWBs.
