Singapore Orders Additional F110-GE-129C Engines

October 25, 2007 -- EVENDALE, Ohio -- The Government of Singapore has selected General Electric Company's F110 fighter engine to power a follow-on order for 12 Boeing F-15SG aircraft, a derivative of the U.S. Air Force's F-15E Strike Eagle.

Of these 12 additional twin-engine aircraft, eight were options as part of Singapore's initial procurement of 12 firm aircraft in January 2006. The 12 original aircraft are slated for delivery in 2009. Engine deliveries for the additional aircraft also begin in 2009.

Singapore's repeat selection of the F110-GE-129C (rated at 29,000 pounds thrust) is the fourth F-15 aircraft selection for the popular fighter engine. In addition to Singapore's two selections, the Republic of Korea Air Force ordered the F110 to power 40 F-15K Slam Eagle aircraft (delivered in 2005). Earlier this year, the Royal Saudi Air Force selected the F110 to re-engine its Boeing F-15S aircraft, marking the first time an F-15 operator has switched engine models.

The F110 model to power the Singapore F-15SG aircraft incorporates GE's Service Life Extension (SLEP) hardware, which includes the core of a successful CFM56 commercial engine, 3D aero technology and upgrades to the combustor and high-pressure turbine. The enhancements can help provide up to a 25 percent improvement in cost-per-flying hour, a significant on-wing increase and elimination of special inspections.

In 1999, the U.S. Air Force completed a highly successful field service evaluation of the F110-GE-129 powering the F-15, during which time the engine surpassed 1,900 engine flight-hours. The F110 engine was qualified for the F-15 in 1996.
