New version of Su-35 multi-role super-maneuverable fighter will start flight trials in 2007

"The new version of the Su-35 is essentially a new aircraft which employs many technologies and much of onboard equipment designed for the fifth-generation fighter. We expect to launch the new machine into the air and start its flight trials in mid next year before Moscow's MAKS-2007 air show," said M.Pogosyan, Sukhoi Director-General, to newsmen at a meeting at KnAAPO.

He pointed out that the Su-35 cockpit had already been twice demonstrated at international exhibitions this year and it shows that the Su-35 of today is quite different from the Su-35 of 15 years ago. In our opinion, the new version of the Su-35 faces very good prospects. Next year it is planned to start testing it on a large scale, M.Pogosyan said. Presently, KnAAPO is building engineering prototypes. All of them are in the advanced stage of manufacture.

The Su-35 multi-role super-maneuverable fighter is designed for engaging aerial targets (in free space and with land as the background). Also, it neutralizes ground and waterborne targets by means of guided and unguided airborne armament. The Su-35 is fitted with a new model of AL-31F engine featuring an afterburning thrust enhanced to 14,500kg.

The aircraft is equipped with the most modern suite of avionics based on the latest achievements of the Russian engineering.

Installed on the aircraft is an Integrated Control System which simultaneously performs the functions of several devices:

 remote control system (RCS);

 automatic control system (ACS);

 restricting signals system (RSS);

 air signals system (ASS);

 chassis wheel braking control system (CWBCS).

The Su-35 is fitted with an information processing and control system that enables the crew to monitor the operation of onboard equipment. No such system was on Su aircraft.

The aircraft is also equipped with a new phased antenna array radar fitted with a 2-stage hydraulic drive that assures simultaneous engagement of up to 8 aerial targets. At the same time, up to 30 targets can be detected and tracked.

Also, the aircraft is equipped with other new systems and devices that are superior in their performance to their foreign counterparts. Among them are the communications system, ECM system, sighting and navigation system, helmet-mounted target designation system, optic location station and others. The maximum combat weight of the Su-35 is up 8 tons, including new types of airborne air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons.

The Su-35 aircraft will employ signature reduction technologies.

The service life of the Su-35 complies with the world standard.
