RAFO - Royal Air Force of Oman
On 24 July 2004, the Sultanate of Oman and NH Industries of France signed in Muscat a contract for the acquisition of 20 NH90 Battlefield helicopters intended for the Armed Forces of the Sultanate.

The helicopters will be used to perform tactical transport, search and rescue, and other military mission in all terrain operated by the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO). This contract has been won thank to the close cooperation between EADS and Eurocopter.

The NH90 helicopters purchased by Oman will be powered by enhanced power plant to withstand the extreme climate conditions of that region of the Middle East. These helicopters are the only in their class to be equipped with fly-by-wire controls.

The contract also includes logistics support, training, field assistance and other related services and equipment. Entry into service with the RAFO of the first NH90 TTH helicopter is planned by 2008.

To date, the NH90 helicopter has been ordered by 10 countries with 345 firm orders and 86 options totaling 431 aircraft. It is bidding for international orders competing with the Sikorsky H/S-92 and the AgustaWestland EH101.
