TRML-3D Mobile Radar System Sold to Malaysia

EADS will supply Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar Systems (TRML-3D) to the Malaysian MoD. The letter of acceptance signed with EADS to meet the defence artillery local warning radar requirements of the Malaysian Government promises the delivery of two such TRML-3D systems slated for the beginning of 2008. The contract valued at approx. 20 million Euro includes options for eight more systems to be decided next year.

The system, supplied by the "Systems House" Defence and Communications Systems, is a self contained mobile 3D radar with an integrated secondary radar system and operator workstations contained in one vehicle. It is fully interoperable with other surveillance radars and operation centres while remaining mobile and autonomous for out-of-area operations.

The system was created to be rapidly deployable and highly mobile for fast camp and decampment. It is a fully-coherent multimode phased array surveillance and target acquisition radar system designed for short and medium range detection and air defence. The 3D radar is capable of detecting, tracking, and classifying various types of targets with a particular emphasis on small, fast and low-flying aircraft, missiles and hovering helicopters. The range of the radar extends up 200 km with an antennae scan time between 2 to 15 seconds, depending on the mode. It can be deployed as a stand-alone radar or can be integrated into air defence networks in coordination with other radars and command control systems, taking no more than 10 minutes to become fully operational. The radars are to be supplied by EADS' Sensors, Avionics and Electronic Warfare House, Defence Electronics.

A 4-axle cross-country vehicle enables TRML-3D to be highly mobile, or be removed from the vehicle altogether. The hydraulically-operated legs enable loading and unloading of the shelter onto the vehicle without a crane using only two operators.
