Thales Awarded Missile Contracts worth $750 Million

On 29 July 2004, UK MoD awarded Thales UK a £180 million ($321 million) contract for a further lot of Starstreak High Velocity Missile (HVM) as anticipated recently in the latest UK Defense Review.

The Starstreak HVM missile, which entered service in 1997, is employed in very short range air defense systems by British forces. The UK MoD hopes to keep the Starstreak in service until 2020. To date, South Africa is the only export customer.

On 26 July 2004, the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defense awarded Thales and Sofresa a €340 million ($426 million) contract to provide logistics support and upgrading for the Crotale and Shahine short range air defense missile systems.

The main contract works for Crotale and Shahine systems will be carried out in France over a period of five years.
