Thales has been awarded a €120
million ($150 million) contract by the Malaysian government to provide state
of the art avionics to outfit Sukhoi SU-30MKM multi-role fighters ordered by
Malaysia.
The integration of avionics into 18 SU-30MKM aircraft will be carried out in
Russia in partnership between Sukhoi and Thales. The avionics provided by Thales
will enhance navigation, identification and optronic capabilities related to
SU-30MK aircraft.
The 18 SU-30MKMs ordered by Malaysia will be delivered between 2007 and 2008.
European state of the art avionics provided by Thales will allow Malaysian
SU-30MKMs to perform a full spectrum of missions during day and night-time
combat.
The SU-30MKM is a derivative of the SU-30MK long range, twin-seater, multi-role
aircraft featuring canard foreplanes and Thrust Vectoring Control (TVC) engines,
as well as full compatibility with latest Russian weaponry.
The SU-30MKM is one of the most advanced members of the SU-27 Flanker aircraft
family.
