The US Air Force has announced that successfully launched its first military satellite payload on an Evolved Expandable Launch Vehicle, EELV, from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The military payload involved in this event was a defense communications satellite. This satellite was lifted into orbit by a Boeing Delta IV rocket.

The Boeing's Delta IV and Lockheed-Martin's Atlas II are the two families of EELVs developed with the US Air Force to modernize and reduce the cost of America's space lift operations.
