Turkish Airlines Selects IAE V2500 Engine to Power 20 A320sNews >> Power Plants >> Sales & Contracts Released on Wednesday, February 03, 2010The airline's firm order includes six A319s and 14 A321s and will be used to facilitate growth in their network. THY currently operates a fleet of 45 IAE-powered aircraft which are predominantly used on routes to Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and CIS. The airline has been a V2500 operator since 2004 and this is the third time they have selected IAE. Mr Hamdi Top�u, Chairman of Turkish Airlines said; "We have been exceptionally pleased with the V2500 during our six years operating the engine. It has helped us to maintain a reputation for cost control that helps us to remain competitive in one of the most demanding aviation markets." IAE President and CEO, Ian Aitken added; "THY recognizes the value that the V2500 offers to airlines through lower operating costs and the airline's confidence is demonstrated through its repeated orders. We work hard to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction in both our product and our customer support and our volume of repeat business is testament to that." The V2500 SelectOne™ build standard delivers an additional one percent fuel burn advantage, along with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions. It improves time-on-wing by up to 20 percent, and will be compliant with the most stringent CAEP/6 NOx standards. It entered service on schedule in October 2008. The 22,000-33,000lb of thrust V2500 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the A319 Corporate Jet. More than 5,500 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order.
