Estonian Ministry of Defense and Patria of Finland have signed an agreement for
the purchase of 60 XA-180 vehicles by Estonia as well as for the modernization
of such a vehicles to fulfill the requirements of the Estonian Army.
The agreement covers training for the Estonian personnel, technical
documentation, support tools and equipment, and initial spare parts packages.
The modification work will take place between 2005 and 2007. The purchase
contract establishes that Estonia will receive 60 XA-180 configured as Armored
Personnel Carrier (APC).
Major modifications are only intended for ambulance and command and control (C2)
vehicle variants, while the remaining vehicle will undergo minor modifications
required to meet the requirements of Estonian authorities. The Estonia XA-180s
will be configured close to those in the Finnish Army. Negotiations between
Patria and Estonia will continue to get the best life cycle support set-up.
