Vietnam Airlines Selects IAE V2500 for Seven Additional Leased A321sNews >> Power Plants >> Sales & Contracts Released on Tuesday, July 15, 2008Vietnam Airlines already operates 12 V2500-powered A321s. The aircraft are used on major domestic routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and on regional routes serving Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok and Singapore. "The excellent in-service performance and reliability of our V2500 fleet was key to our decision to go with IAE power once again," said Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Executive Vice President Technical at Vietnam Airlines. "The V2500 offers us the lowest fuel burn and related emissions, which are key drivers for our business at the moment." IAE President & CEO Jon Beatty added: "We have established a great relationship with Vietnam Airlines that is further cemented by this deal. It is a fast-growing and determined carrier that has developed a product that competes effectively in the airline industry, and offers customers an extensive network within Vietnam and internationally. We're proud to be part of its ambitious expansion plans." The 22,000-33,000lb of thrust V2500 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the A319 Corporate Jet. More than 5,000 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order. The SelectOneTM build standard of the V2500 will reduce fuel burn by 1 per cent (along with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions), improve time-on-wing by up to 20 per cent, and demonstrate compliance with the most stringent CAEP/6 NOx standards. It is due to enter into service later this year.
