Two new Luyang II guided missile destroyers are part of China's naval buildup. The two Luyang II guided missile destroyers are Beijing's first Aegis-type ships. The ships are currently undergoing sea trials. U.S. intelligence officials say China stole the technology for the Aegis battle management system by setting up a front company in the United States that became a subcontractor for the Aegis system manufacturer." I'd be interested to know if it was technical specifications of the latest systems, or the actuall software that runs the systems. The article said 'Battle management systems' which I assume to mean just that, not necesarily the radar steering equipment. If true, this is awfully embarassing, but not in anyway a disaster. At least two other systems are comparable to AEGIS is performance. What I want to know is where they got the phased array technology from. Perhaps when the Israelis were trying to sell the Phalcon AWACS, or did the Rusians do some swapping 'Some AEGIS info, and we'll give you some antenna and radar technology'. Russia doesn't have the soviet era KGB anymore. Interesting find there. Post Reply
