Posted on 24 March 2006 4:03 AMAnybody got any theories on Exo Skelotons? Its half way to robots I spose. But for the modern day infrantry soldier they really are a good idea. Look at Iraq. Allied soldiers running around with guns. Insurgents running around with guns. The two arnt really that far apart. Sure the allies have complex body-armor and modern weapons and a complete kit of goodies. The Insurgents have next to nothing in anything but the weapons. I mean the M-16a2 isnt leaps and bounds in front of the Ak-47 equivelents that the insurgents use, and when it comes down to a man on man battle either side can win. Usually though tactical supports comes through for the allies to win the day, but take that out of the equation (which sometimes happens) and the two men are on equal terms. But what happens if the U.S. for example develops a exoskeleton that enhances every aspect of their soldier. Quicker reflexes, more strength, full body armor and also forms of countermeasures and medical aids. Think of a soldier out of ammunition and surrounded by insurgents. The insurgents start to move in, the soldier waits till they are all close and deploys a 'sleeping' gas. The soldiers exoskeleton contians a filtration breathing apparuts but the insurgents all go to sleep (for how long who knows). The soldier then grabs their weapons and and runs of at 60km/h to get back with his unit. Its uses would be endless and of great advantage. Just some good points I have thought of: -Enhanced physical abilties -Full body protection -An array of medical abilities such as the adminstration of drugs, immobilistation of damaged limbs etc -Personnel monitoring of body condition such as fatigue, injuries and mental state -Soldier specific weapons auxilleries such as weapons mounting pionts for heavy MGs, selfdefense weapons and basic blades and tools Maybe even a panic system that propells a surrounded soldier into the air and lands them 5km away. It a least has a massive coolness factor. The cost would be in orbit somewhere around pluto but a 6 man squad could do the job of a platoon. Does anyone remember that cartoon with the guys that wore those suits. Each suit could attach diffent weapons and vehicle adaptations. There was a dog to. And they lived in a space station. Ya know the one.... Post Reply |

Posted on 14 March 2007 9:27 AMThe mechanical technology exists for advanced robotics and things like exo-skeletons except for one major obstacle - a good portable power supply.Right now the big development opportunity is in creating a super battery. Post Reply |
