Posted on 01 April 2006 5:10 PMWhile I think battleships were decommissioned too early I cant seem them being braught back into service anytime soon while just seeing one in the ocean is a deterrant in its self I dont see how they would fit into the new naval way of fighting especially with the aegis and arlie class destroyers in service that are more high tech and cheaper ro run. While the armor is probably more vulnerable I am assuing I dont build them so I dont know what the specs are our ships only seem to be in danger when getting close to shors so a battleship would do absolutly no good there considering how big they are. With the navy putting alot of money in the new Virginia Class subs its unlikely they will want to re-commision a ww2 war ship.Post Reply |

Posted on 16 August 2006 2:26 PMAs well I have good working knowledge of the Iowa class its structure, systems and capabilities and offer this knowledge to anybody that may have questions pertaining to the ships themselves. If I dont know the answer I will state exactly that however I may be able to find answers that alot of books dont account for. Thanks Post Reply |

Posted on 22 February 2008 4:53 AMThat might be true with the missiles that are being used or could be used against Battleship's, but if you think about it, you could say the same thing for every ship from a frigate up to and including the aircraft carrier, ( just a licky hit on 2 of the four screw's and it now becomes the world's largest airport parking lot). Once you take out the screw's of the carrier, it can no longer safely carry out flight operation's and is a sitting duck. The Marines will also need a ship that can carry out shore bombardment and a platform that isn't as vunerable as the ship's used in a MAU. You tell me, which is more intimidating, a Aegis class Cruiser( with i don't know how many gun's it has on it's main battery ), and the sight of a 45,000+ ton Monster sitting off your shores lobbing 2800lb. moutain destroyers? Ask old Col. Khadaffi what that feels like. I want something that will be out there to help protect the aircraft carrier other then ships that would take up to about 4-6 of them to make even one Battleship. Oh, and for anyone who want's to know...the "Big Mo" never did suffer any damage in the 80's, if she did, she would never had been able to perform in the First Gulf War.Post Reply |

Posted on 22 February 2008 4:57 AMOh, and one more thing.....with the cost of the New Carriers coming out....what would it cost to re-comission all four Battleships? Ask the Marines if they would like to have the Battleships back.Post Reply |
