The Robinson R44 Raven is a light, four-seat, single-engine helicopter suitable for law enforcement and news coverage with optional fixed or pop-out floats for on water take-off and landing. The R44 helicopter standard equipment includes precision-engineered RPM governor, a durable rotor brake, an auxiliary fuel system for added versatility and longer range, a powerful heater/defogger, and hydraulic power controls that completely eliminate stick shake and control forces for a smooth, relaxing ride.
The R44 Raven I and R44 Raven II are powered by a single Lycoming O-540 or IO-540 piston engine respectively driving a two-bladed main rotor. The Raven I/Raven II equipped with floats are called Clipper I/Clipper II respectively. The fixed floats R44 helicopters have a cruise speed reduced by 10 knots due to the floats' additional drag. Overall, Raven II carries more payload, flies at higher altitudes and faster speeds than Raven I.
The R44 helicopter family has an affordable price tag of approx. $375,000 (as of 2007) and low operating costs. So far Robinson Helicopter has produced more than 3,000 R44s for customers worldwide.
