The AN/BYG-1 is the latest combat system for the US Navy submarine fleet. It comprises tactical control, weapons control, and tactical network subsystems each of them incorporates a variety of advanced process build software algorithms developed by a host of industry, government, and academia sources. The AN/BYG-1 will be provided to SSGN-class, Los Angeles-class and Seawolf-class submarines replacing their current combat systems. On October 25, 2004, Raytheon was selected as lead systems integrator for the whole combat control system. The first AN/BYG-1 Combat Control System was scheduled to be installed on an improved SSN-688 Los Angeles class attack submarine in July 2005.

In January 2006, Raytheon announced that was installing AN/BYG-1 submarine combat management system into Australian Collins attack submarines. The BYG-1 was intended to provide target motion analysis improvements and the ability to support Mk 48 ADCAP torpedoes.
